Preethi Eke.. Film review

Something which most people have been talking(atleast were talking) and almost forgotten and it finally came. Director Prem after completing a successfull hatrik as a director has come up with a "New Philosophy" which i guess has been portrayed in the most complicated manner it could have possibly been said.

Firstly hats off to the technical team. Its definetely one of the richest movies made in Kannada. All the talk about Hi-Tech graphics been used do show up on screen but could have had better effect had it been supported with better performances. Thought the concept might seem old its the unique manner in which Director(Not Hero)Prem thinks which leads the movie throughout. Scenes dont come frame after frame. Instead they take a lead to gradually merge back to the previous scenes. In most cases its quite thrilling to watch it. But exxagerated dragging of the first half and unable to wind up the movie quickly are the major drawbacks.prem, mallika sherawat, rohini, namrata

The highly underrated songs by RP PATNAIK are made well to suit to the situations. Title songs is excellently captured and is a treat to watch with great graphics. Neene Neene and Chandamama songs have got breathtaking locales. Atleast that's a place which brings satisfaction for the hard work which the team claims to have done in making the movie. Highly hyped Mallika Sherawat entry into kannada is purely an understatement cause it has no major influence to the movie and just adds another 4 mins extra. You really have no time to even settle down to watch the song since it comes and goes in no time. Its purely a gimmic to draw the front row audience into the movie and they too may be dissapointed since Prem has maintained his reputation of not misusing heroines using skinshow. EeJana Ee mana also has no relavence in the movie. It just takes off the mood from the main concept which might irritate most people.

However getting back to the main core of the movie PYBM is Prem’s experiment, whose success will mainly depend on how people will interpret it after watching. Its a highly intellectual script and perceptual, emotional levels are very high. However Prem's need a congrats for adopting a fresh method to show normal things which usually lacks with most directors today. The film almost achives in telling most of things it was intended to tell. It preches the importance of love in mankind, faith of mankind in himself and surroundings and the very important fact that once you are born you definetely have someone made for you. "Instead of pressurising yourself to find love wait patiently and love will find you".

Despite trying hard to put as many things into the minds of the audience Prem has let many simple facts slip out of place. He has not concentrated on giving good expressions. The camerawork is worthy enough though not great to be talked about. The fight sequences are the best ever and the single shot fight for about 4 mins is breath taking. Show very realistically it gives no suprises as to why the movie received an "A" certification. Namratha has given a great performance but is curtailed to maintained some unnessary expressions. Roshini though has nothing much to do and is just a glam quotient. Prem has maintained his usual team and the new addition Sharan turns most eyelids towards him. However a unexpected climax too may confuse most people.

Slangs rule throughout the movie.Prem should consider himself very luckly to have a person like Ramprasad backing him very well. The use of Rakshita,Ex CM Kumaraswami,Muttapa Rai etc come and go in no time and you just dont have any time to understand what they are trying to say. Definetely the movie could have got a much better response had Prem used a more responsible actor and concentrated on the script better. The ability to maintain audience throughtout the movie is definetely lost in the last half hour. If at all Prem had concentrated in putting a neat icing on the cake towards the last few mins it would have made a big difference. But whatever may be said keeping with the flaws PYBM deserves some food for thought basically for its freshness and technicality. Prem hope to see you only behind the camera from next time.

Rating : 2.5 / 5

Aa Dinagalu: film review

Aa dinagalu provides memorable performances, good film and a good director to Kannada film industry.
Aa Dinagalu is set in the period of 1980’s. The way the characters are self introduced is nice. For the first 15 minutes, we can’t even smell the traces of underworld. Then the face of underworld is revealed. First, both underworld and love story move separately, but later they both get together.

The film is based on real life incidents. We can find all the characters in the film which we hitherto read in newspapers. The film has only two songs which are placed in the exact place. The second song is only a minute long, hence it doesn’t harm the pace of the climax.
The screenplay of the film is tight. Not a minute is boring. Every minute, we are exposed to things unknown to us (since it is based on real story). After second half, we keep waiting for the killing of Kothwal character.
The climax scene where Kothwal is silently killed is shot very well. The end scenes in jail and the textual information at the end is also good.

Artiste’s performance:
Chethan has acted in such a way that we do not feel he is a newcomer. Archana has also acted well, without any problems in her lip movement and dubbing. Girish Karnad, Vinaya Prakash and Chethan’s sister do not have much scope to show their acting skill.
But the real and powerful performances are given by the other set of artistes who have played the characters of Shridhar (Kamalesh Pandey), Bachchan, Kothwal (Sharath Lohitashwa), Jayaraj (Ashish Vidyarthi), Sadar, Shetty, Oil Kumar (Achyutan), Danny, Samson and others. Sharath Lohitashwa has given a wonderful performance.

Camera work:
Camera work by H C Venu is made well to set the story. Different colour schemes used for different scenes deserve a mention. Venu has used green, yellow colour for love scenes. He has used yellow, brownish colours for rowdy scenes.
The high vertical angle shot shown from above a tree in the song “sihi gaali” song, the camera placement to showing Jayaraj moving a drawer are all examples for the good work of Venu. In the song sihi gaali, the use of early morning sunlight is good.

Direction: The director has taken care to portray the Bangalore of 1980’s. Hence he has avoided the multi storey buildings, IT industry, fly overs etc. Use of old telephones and STD booths gives us a real effect. He takes us to the old Bangalore by creating an ambience and environment of those days. Showing of Vikasa soudha in a scene could have been avoided. The director has not forcefully put any stereotype scenes, songs and dialogues. Nor has he put any so called commercial elements like item songs. The scene where Jayaraj reveals his story to a prostitute would have been misused by other directors. But Chaitanya has been loyal to the screenplay. Handling of the whole film gives us an indication that Kannada has got another young talented director.
The director has given the sub-title to the film as “preethiya kulumeyalli nalugida bhoogatha jagattu” (underworld which struggled due to love). We thought that it is usually the opposite of that. But the director has shown how the underworld struggled due to a love story.
Aa Dinagalu is a sincere attempt by young director Chaitanya.

Savi Savi Nenapu - A Touchy Tale

Santosh Rai Pataje's second innings after 7'O clock proves to be another movie with an odd difference. Thought 7'O clock received some rave reviews it failed to click the cash registers. Savi Savi Nenapu riding high on S.V Babu's hit trails seems like it will live up to the expectations.

Pataje has dished out a romantic family entertainer in a serious manner. Dealing with some complicated issues like heart transplants Savi Savi Nenapu is based on human emotions. The films main highlight is some spectacular photography by K.S. CHANDRASHEKAR & GURUPRASHANTH RAI. Location selection, costumes are a treat to watch. Prem does justice to his role. New faces Mallika Kapoor and Tejaswini make a good debut.

The main drawback of the movie is its slow screenplay which fails to gain any strenght throughtout the movie. The makes certain sequences to look a bit dull. R.P Patnaik regains lost fame by rendering some very melodious tunes which are shot very well. Prem displays yet another hidden talent in him. He has sung a solo song 'Hadu Hadu'. Lyrics penned by NAGATHIHALLI CHANDRASHEKAR, JAYANTH KAYKINI, K. KALYAN & HRUDAYA SHIVA are apt to the sequences.

Prem is as cool as ever. His dialogue delivery, narration of the film and not succumbing too much remind his essence in 'Nenapirali'. Mallika Kapoor looks very cute on screen but has to take some acting lessons. Some of the expressions look overdone. Tejaswini however has a very quite role. The movie is refreshingly different among the contemporary commercial masala films. Since its completely class oriented only the initial mouth publicities may save the movie. A crispy narration would have done a difference to the end product. However a very honesh attempt by a young team keeping away from useless remakes definetely deserves appreciation. Will this be the break they needed, only time will tell. Watch the movie if you need some change from the noisy mass movies.

Jothe Jotheyali - Great Debut

Jotejoteyalli starring the latest sensation Prem Kumar and Ramya comes as a good entertainer.Dinakar Thoogudeepa makes a great debut as the director. The new gripping area that he has touched in this film is tidy and this is a wholesome entertainer.

The movie based on how to deal with relationships. How younsters fall in love and few misuderstandings immidiately after marriage lead to a breakup. Excellent photography, memorable music and lyrics, tidy screenplay, timely and apt dialogues and passable performance lift the film from what would have been a mediocre film.Dinakar joins the band of first time directors who made it big in Kannada cinema. For his subject he has worked vigorously for the neat presentation of the film. The film has the shades of bollywood's Chalte Chalte. But where Dinakar is outstanding is in his touching presentation of emotions by not going overboard. The watching of this film definitely leaves a strong impression to the present youths.

Nakul(Prem) and Divya(Ramya) fall in love. They marry against the wishes of their parents and leave their home to settle alone. Everything goes fine with Prem improving his ad company business very well and Ramya too enjoying their relationship. But work pressures for Nakul makes him neglect Divya which brings a sense of doubt to Divya. The situation becomes worse when Nakul works late night with his company model. Divya is also insulted by Nakul for misunderstanding him and this leads to Divya abandoning Nakul and returning back to her parents. None of Nakul's pleadings or compromises are able to satisfy Divya who evetually applies for a divorse. A series of situations leads to a differently shot climax. What happens next?? You have to watch the movie.

Prem comes back again with a bang. This time a more serious role which brings out his best acting skills. He's improving film by film here he's portrayed himself very well. He has done a good job as a lover boy and his sentiment and comic sequences have also come out well thought he still has a long way to go as far as dialog delivery is concerned. He sure is a promising actor, someone to look out in the near future. Ramya is depicted very beautifully and giving her the Uttara Kannada dialogs has completely given a new image to her regular roles. As usual she excells in all departments. Sharan,Tarun Sudheer,Amrutha and Netra as friends do justice to their roles playing the supporting and comic roles.Dwarakish after a long time is back in a much more matured character.

Technically well made JoteJoteyalli impresses from the beginning. Songs are the main strength in the movie. Thanks to V.Harikrishna for the amazing tunes. Siktare Siktare , Gunavanta impress above all. The most pleasant aspect of the film is cinematography. Venus Murthy has done a brilliant job especially in the picturisation of the songs. Some neat lyrics by V.Nagendra Prasad adds a lot of value. Darshan's special apprence in the movie brings a lot of energy into the audience.
Thought the screenplay lacks the energy at some points regular timing of the songs save the movie from breaking down. In a nutshell, 'JoteJoteyalli' is a film for the entire family and a good film from the writing, performance and presentation stand point.

Arrasu - Classy Entertainer

Another landmark film in the name of Power Star. Puneeth fights back with a decent entertainer after a dissapointing "Ajay". Mahesh Babu continues his successfull ride after Akash. Coming from the prestigeous banner Vajreswari Combines known for their clean movies Arrasu is a neat family entertainer.

"Arrasu" presents the hero of the film in a totally different manner. He is an optimist, straightforward, extremely rich, spoilt brute who just doesnt seem to have any aim in life. According to him life is to be enjoyed to the maximum possible extent without any worries. The turning point comes when he meets Ramya whome he falls in love instantly. Ramya being a very responsible character challenges him to earn atleast Rs 5000 without using his name anywhere in society. Thats where the third character played by Meera Jasmine comes into play. In her guidance he is able to achieve his goal. A triangle love develops but who gets who???? Watch it on the silver screen. Completely new concept handled excellently by Mahesh Babu gives the movie a very unpredictable climax. Special guest appearances by Aditya, Darshan and Shreya all add glitter to the entertainment.

Joshua Shridhar has given foottapping tunes and combined with neat picturisation gives a very rich look to the film. No Tension, Ninna Kandakshana are shot very well. Baaro Baaro sung by Puneeth himself is a wholesome mass song.

Both actress look glamourous but have failed to deliver good sentiments especially towards the climax. "Arrasu" does not boast of a great story, but what makes it attractive to the audience is the way the film has been narrated. The audience will feel the difference within ten minutes of its viewing. Though Puneet has a great charismatic appeal and enjoys a great level of popularity, he is presented as the boy next-door character. Dialogs are catchy. Very different from the previous films of Puneeth. Narrated in a different anglo accent portrays the character very well.Komal and Sreenivas Murthy do justice to their supporting roles. Mahesh Babu has taken care to make sure both heroines are given equal importance.Great locations, costly costumes, rich cars have been used.

Though the climax drags on towards the end testing the patience of the audience the director makes up with a good climax. The action scenes bring joy to the fans. Arrasu is an enjoyable film and worth for the rupee paid for its good songs, quality performances and high-class visuals.

Duniya :: Ee Loka tumba costly

Failure definetely makes you strive hard for success. Duniya is an example. Director Suri deserves a big applause for his apt depiction and narration of the selfish society. Seems like he was determined to dwell out something great for the longing audience. Its clearly visible in each and every frame of the movie. New entrant Vijay who was seen in minor roles before makes his debut as a full-fledged hero, has done a commendable job. The action and stunt sequences stand out very well , a very important factor for this script. Different Dany has done a great job regarding this.

The glamour factor is definetely out and Suri has kept this in mind in selecting the right heroine for himself. Rashmi too has done justice to her role as an orphanage. However the outstanding performace would definetely we handed over to Rangayana Raghu. Top class command over the language and front bench dialogs gives the movie and whole new life to it. The movie depicts the current status of local rowdism in the city. Situations which lead to the final frame have been pin pointed very well which leaves us waiting for the climax with bated breadth.

Quarry worker Shivu alias Shivalingu (Vijay) arrives at Bangalore to earn money in order to build a memorial on his mother’s grave. Here he happens to save Pournami (Rashmi) from lecherous truck drivers. Both of them seek the help of Satyanna (Rangayana Raghu), a drunkard, for shelter. Satyanna introduces Shivu to Loose Mada for a job. Loose Mada, with an evil eye on Pournami, helps Shivu. Circumstances compel Shivu to antagonise a number of anti-social elements alongwith encounter specialist Umesh (Kishore). The rest is how both deal with the situation thats has gone out of control.

Music by Manohar is above average. Background scores could have been better thought the song 'Kariya I love you' was very well appreciated by the audience. Neat cinematography by Sathya Hegde is portrayed well on screen.

The only major drawback of these movies is the message they spread among the masses. But it just seems like the KFI is just not going to hold back from the longu and machhu movies. Wishing the team all the best
